Marinaleda city, with 2700 inhabitants, on the initiative of its mayor, is self-managed by its inhabitants. Public meetings are held each week. Citizens guard the streets on Sundays without pay. There isn't a municipal police. The agricultural cooperative uses land expropriated from the aristocracy. The cooperative employs the majority of the population with equal pay for all. Thus, it has put a stop to unemployment and migration to the cities.
