Programa “Muévete y Métete en Cintura”

In Mexico, 8 of every 10 people over 30 doesn’t do any physical activity and the physical education class in primary school is once a week for a period of 39 minutes in average, with only 9 minutes of moderate or intense activity. The lack of exercise is one of the main factors for overweight and obesity

 

The obesity and overweight have become the principal public health hazard in mexico, as they are the principal risk factor for developing non transmissible chronic illnesses, such as diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular, first causes of death in the Federal District. 

 

The costs and their effects on human lives, and the economic and social effects are very high, with a tendency to increase.

 

Therefore, the Government of the Federal District has created interventions for health-related promotion and prevention of through the Ministry of Health and the Public Health Services of the Federal District, such as the campaign of the Programa Muévete y Métete en Cintura (Move and Get Into Shape Program), detection actions and referral and nourishment programs.

 

The Programa Muévete y Métete en Cintura comprises the following sub-programs:

1. Muévete en la Ciudad (Move in the City):  Dissemination of key messages and distribution of educational and promotional materials. 

2. Muévete en el Parque (Move in the Park): Train sports-promoters to provide dietary guidance workshops - Provide recommendations for physical activity - Promotion and distribution of informational materials. 

3. Muévete en tu Oficina (Move in your Office): Implement the dynamic "Movie in the Office" by training a group of monitors to provide education sessions on physical activity and psycho-physical relaxation dietary guidance and distribute materials. 

4. Muévete en la Escuela (Move in School): Train professionals of the School Health Child Nutrition Program. Provide nutritional counseling through dynamic teaching. Promote physical activity. 

5. Muévete por Tu Salud (Move for your Health):  To contribute to the dietary management of the Health public service users, promote practice of physical activity and good eating habit.
